Serge Shamov was born in Moscow (Russia) on 27th of May in 1981. He started playing drums and percussion when he was 6 years old under the direction of A. Yudin at the Shalyapin Music School in Moscow. Serge graduated at the Music College of the Moscow P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatoire as a student of Anatoly Kurashov and at the Moscow P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatoire as a student of Professor Victor Grishin.

In 2009 Serge finished post-graduate education as a percussionist in the Moscow P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Victor Grishin’s class and also as a musicologist at the Department of Russian musical history. Serge’s granted by International Steinbeck Foundation, Charity Foundation of Elini Bistritskoy.

In 2009 Serge Shamov has won first prize in important Russian competition (Kazan).

Serge combines concert practice and scientific art work. He’s the author of many articles and the monography («Music of the action. Percussion Instruments in the Music of Theatrical Performance and the Category of Tempo-rhythm».) to the turned percussion instruments. Some articles deals with the correlation of temporal foundations in music and theatrical performance taking as an example the inclusion of percussion parts into the score. The category of tempo-rhythm used in stage practice is regarded as a principal basis for establishing logical patterns of a «horizontal» combination of a performance’s diverse elements (identity, equivalence, proportional concordance, negation). Theatrical tempo-rhythm has never before been analyzed in connection with music. The reason for exploring this topic is a special role of percussion in 20-th century music, extending to applied genres as well, and caused by the peculiarities of these instruments’ sounds and the specifics of playing them.

In 2010 Serge’s got PhD for his work «Expressive and form-building functions of percussion instruments». He gives lectures, participates in conferences in different halls and College’s of Moscow as well as gives percussion’s masterclasses.

Serge has begun active work as the soloist of an orchestra and ensembles since 2000. As the soloist and the artist of orchestra annually participated in festivals «Moscow Autumn» 2000-2009. Was the invited performing musician in group of percussion instruments in famous orchestras under conducters control of Y.Bashmet (The State Symphonic Orchestra «New Russia»), V.Ziva (Moscow Symphonic Orchestra), P.Kogan (The Moscow State Academic Symphonic Orchestra), K.Kremets (Globalis Orchestra), P.Ovsyannikov (Presidential Orchestra of Russia), V.Poljansky (The State Academic Symphonic Chapel of Russia), G.Rojdestvenskiy (the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia), V.Ponkin (Moscow Philarmonic Orchestra), S.Skripki (The State Orchestra of Cinematography), etc.

In 2002-2003 as the leader supervised over group of percussion instruments in a symphonic orchestra «Metro Philarmoniс».

In 2003-2006 worked as the artist of an orchestra in group of percussion instruments of the Moscow State Academic Symphonic Orchestra.

From 2007 till this time Sergey Shamov is the soloist of the National Academic Orchestra of Russia (Ossipov Orchestra).

Serge took active part in the Moscow international festival of modern music «Games without words». In 2007 solo performance with the Moscow Symphonic Orchestra in Big hall of Conservatory has taken place. Repeatedly participated in the concerts the higher officials of the Russian Federation were which guests of honor.

In 2010 Serge was invited as percussion soloist in the Russian version of show «Elect The Dead Symphony» by Serge Tankian (USA).

From 2011 till this time Serge’ve got course at the Moscow P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatoire.

Besides his career as a classical percussionist, Serge devotes time to performing other styles of music, including new-metal, industrial, tango, folk, march-band and electronic drummer projects, both on the percussion and the drummer-programmer. Since 1999 he works with «Dirty MoleculAs», in 2007 he joined to the folk-group «Sylphs». Repeatedly participated in different festivals («Crops», «Anti-Spid», «Nashestvie» and others).

He was the first performer of different special concerts in Moscow and Russia (Second concert for Marimba and orchestra by Ney Rosauro, «The night of Moon Dances» by Kopecki (White hall of Moscow Conservatory), Concert for Cajon and Orchestra by Omar Acosta (the Moscow International Performing Arts Center).

Shamov Sergey — the first Russian percussionist who has successfully presented the favourite tool of the Peruvian slaves and modern variety percussionists — cajon, on the best academic scenes of Russia (The Concert hall of a name of P.I.Tchaikovsky and the Chamber hall of the Moscow State Academic Philharmonic hall; Svetlanovsky, Theatrical and Chamber halls of the Moscow International House of Music; Small and Rakhmaninovsky halls of the Moscow State Conservatory of a name of P.I.Chaykovsky and so forth). Known Spanish composer O. Akosta chose Shamov Sergey for premier perfomance in Russia of the Concert for cajon with an orchestra.
Mario Cortes (Mario Cortés\Mario Cortes Cajones), the world leader in production unique cajons, created a special model King III Special Sergey Shamov Edition differing both on a sound, and on a design. Near the Mario Cortes logo S S initials appear.
Serge’s repertoire contains music from native to the music written for him by contemporary composers. He recorded more than ten CD’s music in different styles (classical, Russian national, modern, music to Theatrical performances (including New Year’s representations in the Kremlin), to films (Russian and foreign).

Nowadays, Serge Shamov performs in all famous concert-halls in Moscow, such as Big, Small and Rachmaninoff’s halls of Moscow Conservatory, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, Svetlanov’s hall of Moscow International House of Music, Gnesin’s hall, Olympiskiy Grand hall (18 000 spectator’s place), Arena Drujba of Lujhniki (10 000 spectator’s place) etc. He went on tour with concerts many cities in Russia, the CIS countries and the far abroad including the USA, Italy, France, Finland, Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Turkey, Holland, Belgium, Croatia, Hungary, the North Korea, China, Cyprus, Greece, Slovenia, Austria, Ukraine, Moldova etc.

In 2013 Sergey Shamov has the first show with orchestra in Berlin Philarmony with his friend Aydar Gaynullin.

In 2014 was invited as a special guest in the interational musical festival «PanTonale» (Berlin, Germany), where got 3 soldout’s concerts.

In 2015 and later in 2016 Sergey Shamov was invited in new shows of famous diva Peruquois (Australia).

In 2016 the oldest and the most famous Record Label «Firma Melodiya» released album «Sergey Shamov, Percussion». So Sergey Shamov become the first soloist percussionist released in «the national heritage of Russia, the most valuable archive which includes more than 230,000 sound recordings».

In 2017 Sergey become soloist of Moscow Region Philarmony.

In 2020 Sergey become musical producer in a new film of director Alexey Utchitel «Tsoi».


Sergey Shamov now continue active work in the commonwealth with leading actors of «Theatre of the Nations» (Julia Peresild, Pavel Akimkin, Artem Tulchinskiy) and GOGOl—center, cooperates with many talented musicians (Aydar Gaynullin (bayan, accordina, vocal), Artem Dervoyed (guitar), Borislav Strulyov (cello)) and also participates in studio and concert work as the sessional drummer and the percussionist.
